摘要
机器翻译是语言学、计算机科学及自动化技术相结合的边缘科学。从１９４６年至今，机器翻译经历了起步、发展、停滞、高速发展４个时期；机器翻译系统也经历了三代更新；机器翻译在许多国家的科研、军事和生产部门得到不同程度的应用，其中美、加、法成果较多，日本也生产出多种语言对译器；我国也在机器翻译事业中取得了可喜的成就，生产出多种品牌的电子词典和英汉机器翻译系统。
Computer translation is an interdisciplinary subject combined with linguistics, computer science and automation technology. It is in urgent need to use computer instead of human labour to deal with a mountain of document literature all over the world. Four periods have been seen in the development of computer translation, which include starting, developing, stagnating and high speed developing since 1946 and three generations in computer translation system have been renewed since then. Computer translation is being used in scientific research, military and industrial production to different degrees in many countries, among which the United States, Canada and France are more fruitful in this aspect. Japan has also produced many kinds of language translating machines and China is making great progress in producing various electronic dictionaries and English-Chinese computer translation system as well.
