A Flexible Street by Yangtze River--A Design for the International Competition of "Architec ture and Water

石宝寨是长江三峡沿线著名的旅游景点,三峡工程竣工蓄水后,将淹没石宝寨周边的传统街区。利用“跃迁式发展”观念,采用建筑与规划手段来保护及发展当地的文化脉络、空间特色,是参加“建筑与水”国际概念竞赛(UIA)的基本构思和出发点。

The Three Gorges Project on the Yangtze River will be completed in 2009. After the completion of the dam, the water level in the Three Gorges Reservior will rise up to 175m from present 120m, and will fluctuate between 145m and 175m each year. Shibao Stockaded Village will be surrounded by water and most of Shibao Town will be submerged. In the International Competition of 'Architecture and Water' hold by UIA, the author studies the case because the architecture, landscape and culture context make this area be worthy of preserving. Furthermore, this study can make a good example for the other similar towns in the area of Three Gorges Reservior.
