Through the comparison of IPv4. with IPv6, the characteristic and disadvantage of IPv4 are discussed, and the improvement and advantages of the next generation internet protocol IPv6 are introduced. The mobile function of IP Layer based on MIPv6 and the built-in security mechanism of IPv6 are introduced in detail. The paper finally forecasts that IPv6 will possibly get comprehensive use in mobile communication domain so as to realize mobile inter-link.
