This paper discusses several problems of GIS in designing a Vehicle Navigation System (VNS), which is a combination of GIS and GPS. After a brief introduction of VNS, it discusses the following issues: (1) How to convert the data's coordinate and projection. (2) The method of how to display the map in a VNS. (3) The matching of GPS data with road network data.
