Tang Xianzu was well known for his affirming sentiment in the traditional operas, and his numerous poems had rich and deep sentiment as well. But the connotation in the two literary forms were not in the same way. The sentiment in his poems was more upright and rational with the blend of his ideal and the viewpoint of value. This feature was the result of combining his philosophy of Benevolence of Living and the traditional Expression of Willing of the classical Chinese poems.
