The Culture of Dong-ping in late Jin and early Yuan Dynasty and its Connection with Yan-shi and his Sons

金元之际，严实父子治理东平地区近50年，一面招致流亡文 士，复兴金源文化，一面兴学养士，为元朝培养了大批人才，也为散曲等多种文学样式的繁 荣奠定了坚实的基础。在一定程度上扫除了改朝换代之际文化恹恹不振的局面，起到了发轫 元朝自身文化的作用。

During the period in late Jin and early Yuan Dynasty, Yan-shi and his sons governed Dong-ping for nearly 50 years, which witnessed the revival of Jin's culture because a great deal of previously exiled intellectuals were attr acted there. On the other hand, they also kept many scholars to develop educatio n; as a result, a huge quantity of persons of ability were turned out for Yuan d ynasty, as well as a substantial basis for the thriving of culture and literatur e, such as San-qu melody. All these cleaned off the cultural depression usually appearing during dynastic changes, at the same time started and developed Yuan' s culture and literature.
