Environment is a supporting system to realize the sustainable economic development.Environmental protection is significant for the western undeveloped districts to raise the efficiency of resource development, to improve people's health and to cultivate their consciousness of natural ethics.So it is an energetic guarantee to put the environmental protection in a vital position for the successful inplementation of the development strategy of western China.By a concrete inspection about the natural condition in the western China and about the road of exchanging pollution for economic growth stepped in the eastern China,this essay gives an initial discussion on the strategic position of the environmental protection in the western development.It aims to direct people to avoid the series of vicious consequences that will be caused by the deterioration of environmental pollution.
