中国唐代的诗歌实践在意境的运用上已达到了登峰造极的地步,但关于“意境”的理论却只是处在初步形成的阶段,唯其为初步,才显示出开创性的意义。王昌龄提出了“意境”一词,并对景与意的关系作了探讨;皎然将“情”与“境”联系起来,看到了“文外之旨”。正是在王、皎的基础上,意境理论不断发展,并渐臻于成熟。
