The molecular recognition of a new kind of threonine modified porphyrinatozinc (Ⅱ) (host) to amino acid esters (guest) has been detected with UV Vis absorption spectrum titration method. This porphyrinatozinc (Ⅱ) forms 1∶1 and 1∶2 adducts with amino acid esters. At first, the amino group of amino acid esters interacts with the carboxyl group of the amino acid residue of this porphyrinatozinc (Ⅱ) to form 1∶1 adducts. Then, the amino group of amino acid esters coordinates with the central zinc atom of this porphyrinatozinc (Ⅱ) to form 1∶2 adducts. The Coulomb interaction and the London's dispersion forces between the host and the guest may be the other two kinds of interactions that make this porphyrinatozinc (Ⅱ) recognize amino acid esters.
