钟敬文先生早年就积极倡导并身体力行地进行中外民间故事的比较研究；在新时期，中国民俗学得以恢复后，钟敬文先生除了自己撰写了一系列民间故事比较研究的论文外，以更多的精力关注和指导中国民间故事比较研究的整体推进和队伍建设，引导中国民间文化“向世界敞开心扉”，为中外文化交流做出了杰出的贡献。

In his youth,Zhong Jin-wen actively carried out his comparative study of folk tales of China and other countries.In the new era, in addition to a series of articles of the comparative study of folk tales,he spared no efforts to lead the reconstruction of comparative study of Chinese folk tales and has made great contribution to the cultural exchange between China and the outside world.
