Theory of sexual health preservation and its cultural connotations in books of sexuality guidance from Mawangdui Tomb

1973年底,在长沙马王堆三号汉墓出土了大批帛书和部分竹简、木笺,其中属于古代房中医书的五种,分别定名为《天下至道谈》、《十问》、《合阴阳》、《养生方》、《杂疗方》等,它是我国现存最早的房中书.

The books of sexuality guidance,titled On Principle of Universe,Ten Questions,and Yin and Yang Combi-nation,unearthed from Mawangdui Tomb in early 1970' are the oldest books of this nature found in China.They are very im-portant academic monographs of systemic research into sexual activity.The main theories of health preservation by sexual activ-ity are:being moderate in sexual intercourse,astringing seminal emission,reinforcing vital function from females' vital secre-tion,preventing seven kinds of losses and enhancing eight kinds of benefits,and promoting coital pleasure with females.Ac-cording to cultural history,books of sexuality guidance has cultural anthropological significance,which is fraught with culturalcharacteristics of the era.The theory of yin and yang is the theoretical framework of sexual guidance which is deeply influ-enced by Confucianist and Taoist doctrines.The sexual relationship in ancient China was suited to the marital system of polyga-my.Therefore,the sexual activity in ancient time was wholesome in general.
