Somatic embryogenesis is of great value in various fields such as seedling propagation, making artificial seeds and genetic improvement in fruits and trees. A great progress was made in somatic embryogenesis in fruits and trees in the past 20 years. In this paper the factors affecting somatic embryogenesis in fruits and trees are first reviewed, and then the utilized paths and prospects are also preliminarily analyzed.
