Modern Spectral Analysis(MSA)is a newly developed subject with advances rapidly in recent twenty years,and has been used in many fields. It attracts more interest and attention of the scien tists and engineers due to its predominant performance. In this paper,it gives a brief summary of the wide contents of MSA. First,the meaning and history of development of MSA is introduced,and the relation among MSA and other related subjects and techniques is analyzed. Secondly, the principal theories and methods used in MSA are described ,and several important problems to be noted are appointed, Finally, some applications of MSA in practical use are given,and the advances of MSA are discussed.
