Horn divided negative sentence into two kinds:descriptive negation and metalinguistic negation during 1980s. He regarded that descriptive negation negates the truth condition of the sentence,but the metalinguistic negation negates the suitableness condition of the sentence.On the other hand, Carston thought that in the language negative word 'not',is a kind of truth negation;'Metalinguistic negation' so called,is a kind of echoic use;The author led into the principles of'use'and 'mention',and also pointed out the differences between them,meanwhile,he gave a limited principle,in order to restrict on the echoic use of non metalinguistic negation.
