The First Dialogue between Chinese Culture and Western Culture in Modern Times and Chinese Social Reform——To Discuss the Relation of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and Chinese Modernization Again

太平天国在中国近代史上 ,首次和西方文化进行了一次粗浅却又比较全面的对话 ,或者说它对中西文化进行了首次格义 ,形成了包括器物、制度和精神在内的中国社会变革方案。其目标虽然朦胧 ,但是指向中国需要有一个新国家 ,从而使这场旧式农民战争具有了近代社会变革运动的新内涵、新特点 ,揭开了中国近代化的序幕。换句话说 ,中国近代化是以器物。

In Chinese modern history,it was Taiping Heavenly Kingdom that made a dialogue with Western culture for the first time,which was superficial yet comprehensive.Namely,Taiping Heavenly Kingdom achieved mastery through a comprehensive study of Chinese culture and Western culture.Thereby a scheme of Chinese social reform including implement?system and spirit was drawn up.The goal of the scheme was obscure,but it pointed out that the Chinese needed a new country.So the old-type peasant war had some new meanings and characteristics of social reform movement,hence opening the prelude to Chinese modernization.In other words,the unity of the reforms of implement,system and spirit became the prelude to Chinese modernization.
