In the arid and poor mountain lands, shrubs are used to conserve soil, water and headwater and to improve ecological environment, which can not be replaced by any tree species. Through the investigations of Taiyi mountain areas, this paper suggests the distribution of shrub resources, biomass production and effects of conserving headwater, soil and water. The principles of ecology are used to analyse physical properties of soils in shrub forests, hydrolic benefits and drought resistances thereby to conclude that the expanded utilization of shrub resources has the bright potential in the arid and poor mountain lands.
