中华文化典籍翻译中的文化调适——从五部汉语典籍的翻译策略谈起

Cultural Adjustment in the Translation of Chinese Cultural Classics:Talking the Translation Strategies of Five Chinese Classics as an Example

在当前经济全球化迅猛发展以及倡导"文化软实力"的大背景下,弘扬中华传统文化已成为学术界重点研究的课题。林语堂是公认的中西方文化交流大使,对其汉语典籍英译的研究是中华文化典籍翻译研究中不可或缺的内容。以文化妥协、文化移植、文化补偿三个不同层面作为出发点,选取其5部汉语典籍英译作品进行研究,对作品在英译过程中进行的文化调适进行剖析探究,发现这五部汉语典籍的英译作品在处理文化内容时采用的翻译策略不拘一格,灵活多变,不仅忠实再现了原作的精髓,而且增强了译本的可读性,弘扬了中华传统文化。

Under the background of the rapid development of economic globalization and the advocacy of Cultural Soft Power,carrying forward Chinese traditional culture has become an important research topic in academic circles. Lin Yutang is recognized as an ambassador for cultural exchange between China and the West,and the study of the translation of his Chinese classics into English is an indispensable part of the study of translation of Chinese classics.Taking three different levels of cultural compromise,culture transplantation and cultural compensation as the starting point,the paper chooses five of his works as English translation works to analyze and explore the cultural adaptation of the works in the process of English translation.It is found that the translation strategies used in the English translation of the five Chinese classics are flexible and varied,which not only faithfully reproduce the essence of the original work,but also enhance the readability of the translation and promote the traditional Chinese culture.
