TCM master XIONG Ji-bo treats chronic diseases based on principles of 'shou' and 'fang'

熊继柏教授认为慢病主要具有三大特点:(1)持久缠绵,反复无常;(2)虚实相兼,寒热相混;(3)主症顽固,变症复杂。在治疗慢病的时候要做到有守有方,"守"具有"谨守病机""守持到底"两层意思,"方"具有"确定系统方略""分清标本缓急"两层意思。

Professor XIONG Ji-bo points out that chronic diseases have three main characteristics from the perspective of TCM.Firstly,the course of illness is long and the illness repeatedly.Secondly,syndrome of intermingled deficiency and excess and syndrome of intermingled cold and heat.Thirdly,the main symptoms is difficult to cure and modified syndromes is complicated.In the clinical treatment of chronic diseases,it is necessary to keep the rules of ‘shou'and ‘fang'.‘Shou'has the meaning of keeping pathogenesis in the whole course of treatment.‘Fang'has the meaning of determining the system strategy and distinguish between symptomatic treatment in acute condition and radical treatment in chronic case.
