Emily Mann is an important contemporary American playwright of documentary plays.In her representative work Still life, Emily Mann,through recording different victims'trauma narrative,recaptures their traumatic memory.Whether it is intrusive or impoverished,traumatic memory can't be cleared up.In views of her family's traumatic history and her own creation process,this play,with individual's traumatic memory as the breakthrough,aims to trigger the public's reflection on the pervasiveness of violence,on the harmful consequence brought about by Vietnam War and also on the attitude of the whole American society toward Vietnam War.This play makes the public become aware that if they can't face the past war trauma,the infectious trauma will pass down to the successive generations,inflicting incurable pain upon the whole nation.
