在《东方之旅》中,怀乡/恋旧作为一种现代性的情绪产物,从根本上反映了黑塞对于诺瓦利斯式的中古"黄金时代"的向往。从叙述的形式到情节的敷设,小说有机地融合了盟会小说、中世纪文学以及浪漫派文学的相关元素,既表现了作家高度自觉而又不囿于传统的小说艺术,也是其沉潜于生命与时间之中,在破碎的经验世界边缘探求宇宙与精神的内在法则的结果。由里欧的失踪引发了对"东方之旅"的叙事的自我消解,指涉了作家对于现实历史和政治的审视与反思,而通过对不朽的诗性乌托邦世界的建构则揭示了黑塞的浪漫派"神话"与东方文化之间的深层联系。
As an emotive product of modernity,"nostalgia"in Die Morgenfahrt reflects fundamentally Hermann Hesse's yearning for Novalis'medieval "Golden Age".In its narrative structure and plot elaboration, the novel combines Bundsroman,medieval literature and Romantic literature organically,which not only presents the author's consciousness of the art of fiction,but also is the result of his searching for the inner principle of cosmos and spirit immersed in life and time.
