Hepatitis B virus (HBV)has long been prevalent and widespread.Hepatitis B caused by HBV infection has always been a global public health problem.HBV initiates infection by binding to a receptor on the surface of the target cell.Researchers have been dedicated to finding the receptor of HBV for more than 40 years since HBV was discovered. Many studies have been reported, but none have been accepted until sodium taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP)was identified and recognized as a functional receptor for HBV.This discovery has led to further understanding of the mechanism of infection of HBV and it provides a new direction for basic research and clinical treatment of HBV.
