社会空间是新城市社会学的重要研究领域,也是新城市社会学所蕴含的研究视角。马克·戈特迪纳通过梳理新城市社会学的社会空间研究,明确提出分析城市社会的社会空间视角。从社会空间视角来看,城市是定居空间,分析社会行为、投资、消费、文化、政府规划等社会力量作用下的居住投资、建设、配置以及居住生活,成为探寻城市社会秩序的重要途径。以社会空间视角研究城市,把居住作为关注点,将个人行为与政治、经济、文化、意识形态等社会过程联系起来,打破了传统城市空间研究关注单一社会过程的局限,尝试将更多的社会要素纳入进来。这种新研究视角对我国城市社会研究有重要意义。
