OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of upper respiratory tract infection on vestibular function of children with vertigo, and identify the vestibular lesions for further treatment.METHODS The children with vertigo who were treated in the outpatient clinic from March 2016 to February 2018 were included. The infected group included 41 vertigo patients with a history of upper respiratory tract infection within 2 weeks, and control group included 40 vertigo patients with non-infected at the same period. Vestibular system was assessed using caloric test, cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potential.RESULTS The abnormal rate of vestibular function in the infected group was higher than that in the control group(P=0.011).It was also showed that there was no statistically difference between abnormal vestibular function and pathogen type, degree of dizziness and length of history(P>0.05).The superior vestibular nerve and the whole vestibular nerve were infected easier than the inferior vestibular nerve.CONCLUSION Abnormal vestibular function in children with vertigo was affected by upper respiratory tract infection, which was not associated with the pathogenic type, the length of history and the degree of vertigo.
