This article concentrates on the fact that there were no bricks in the traditional Japanese buildings.By analyzing the development of bricks in Japanese buildings and comparing the application of brick with wood,it reveals that wood represents temporary, inexplicit, and flexible which Japanese prefer, while brick represents permanent, separate, and constant.Basically, the conflicting tectonic thinking and aesthetic standards between wood and brick lead to the preference choice in building materials.
