During the development of Oxford University,the tradition of liberal education has had a profound effect.Since the Middle Ages,Oxford has been upholding the spirit of independence and devoting itself to training talents with the collegiate system,tutorial system,and unique courses such as the"Seven Liberal Arts",classics and humanities.In contrast to utilitarianism and instrumentalism,Oxford has been focusing on imparting general knowledge,guarding,inheriting and developing the tradition of academic freedom,which has defended its world-class status.Its success can provide some references for China world-class universities construction.
