Chinese medicine application therapy's way is direct, and its effect is very quick. It is suit for many symptoms. It is safe and the adverse reaction is less. No matter it is used alone or with other treatments, the curative effect of it is better than any other monotherapy. Currently, many researches of Chinese medicine application concentrate on the summary of clinical experience and the efficacy assessment, but the studies on the factors affecting the effect, preparation process of external pharmaceutical dosage forms, release rate, degree of absorption, the proportion of external therapy ingredients and synergistic mechanism between acupoints and drugs are less. Most of Chinese medicine application's prescriptions are self-made. Most of dosage forms are ointment or paste. The effect of external application of skin is slower and the amount of medicine absorbed by the human body is limited. Chinese medicine application therapy has some limitations. So deepening the mechanism research of Chinese medicine application progressively, developing the exploration and clinical trials of application of combination prescription, perfecting and replenishing Chinese medicine external function, and in combination with the modern transdermal drug delivery system are important research directions to develop a transdermal preparation with exact and rapid efficacy.
