Metonymy-Lifting in Japanese Translations of Chinese Poems: An Initial Study

本文以宋词的几个日文译本中的译作为对象,考察宋词中借代手法的日文翻译,重点考察译者采用了何种方式进行翻译,并将其进行分类。通过具体词例来分析、总结其翻译方法的特点和效果,从而提出宋词借代手法的日文翻译的有效策略。

This paper is an initial attempt to evaluate the Japanese translation of metonymy lifted from several collections of Song Dynasty poems.The paper focuses on the translators'effective approaches to the rendition of poems in general and of Song-Japanese poetic works in particular.Examples are cited to illustrate the power produced by lifting metonymy for Japanese versions.
