The role and function of the university is the basic activity of the university,which reflects the important function of the university,and is the most basic activity element of the university based on the society.This paper makes an in-depth analysis of the interview with the President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology by using the theory of taking root in qualitative research.Higher education is the innovation engine of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's construction.The role and function of university are talent training,scientific research and social service including cultural heritage and international communication.Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,as a national strategy,carries the new mission of high-quality development of China's economy.Looking to the future, The universities in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area should strengthen the cooperation of science and technology,build a high-level university innovation alliance,adopt a flexible cooperation mode, promote the integration and development of higher education,give full play to the role of university,and fully serve the national development strategy.
