The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry is the first novel written by Rachel Joyce. It tells a story of a 60-year-old man,Harold Fry,who walks across England by trudging 627 miles in 87 days.In terms of lost self, pursuit and self-realization,the novel itself embodies the core concepts of Existentialism.Meanwhile, the true meaning of Existentialism is unveiled by individual's choice, which is deeply rooted in the story itself. The touching plot inherits the classical writing style, and subverts it simultaneously. This thesis analyzes the thematic concern through the perspective of Existentialism.
