Young Zhou Enlai and the Political Department of Whampoa Military Academy

有别于近代中国其它军事院校,黄埔军校自筹备之初就被赋予了极为强烈的政治教育色彩和革命精神诉求,本应领导贯彻此种理念的军校政治部,起初因领导者不够重视政治工作,或根本不懂如何开展政治工作,导致这一重要部门处于闲散状态,引发黄埔师生的普遍不满,这种状况直到周恩来担任政治部主任后才开始改观。就职期间,周恩来重新规划了政治部的各职能部门,并从黄埔一期毕业生中选调优秀人才到这些部门中担任职务。机构健全,人才充实后,黄埔军校的政治工作得以全方位开展。期间,周恩来不断创新政治工作方法,完善教学形式,着手拟定政治部各项规章制度,并将这些新思路、新方法、新制度推广至全校乃至国民革命军。在两次东征和平叛杨希闵、刘震寰的战争中,周恩来领导的政工团队和经过革命精神熏陶的黄埔学生军,屡获胜绩,打出了黄埔的威名。

Unlike other military academies in modern China,Whampoa Military Academy was politically and revolutionarily driven since its preparation. The political department of the military school,which should have implemented this concept,was inactive at the outset because its leaders didn' t pay enough attention to political work or didn' t understand how to carry out political work at all,which caused general dissatisfaction among Whampoa's teachers and students. This situation did not change until Zhou Enlai served as director of the Political Department. During his assumption of duty,Zhou Enlai re-planned the various functional sections of the Department and selected outstanding students from the Whampoa first-phase graduates to serve in these sections. With sound institutions and enriched talents,the political work of Whampoa Military Academy started to be carried out in all directions. During this period,Zhou Enlai continued to innovate methods of political work,improve teaching forms,draft various rules and regulations of the Political Department,and promoted these new ideas,new methods,and new rules and regulations to the entire school and even the National Revolutionary Army. During the two eastern expeditions and the war of pacifying the rebels of Yang Ximin and Liu Zhenhuan,The team of political workers led by Zhou Enlai and the Whampoa Student Army,which has been nurtured by revolutionary spirit,have won numerous victories and spread the Whampoa's reputation.
