The Development of the Railway Transportation and the Newspaper in the Period of the Republic of China

历史上,交通运输与信息传播密不可分,火车曾对报业产生过重要影响。火车提供的便捷,不仅让记者在采访、写作、传稿等方面受益,还为报纸的印刷、发行、零售提供了原料、空间和渠道,是报业现代化不可或缺的一部分。文章通过对民国新闻史料的发掘,从信息的采集与传递两个角度,考察了火车给报业带来的影响,进而确证了传播(communication)与运输(transportation)密不可分的关系。

Transportation and communication are inseparable, especially in the history. Trains have had an important impact on the press. The train not only benefits journalists to conduct interviews, writing and publishing, but also provides materials and space for newspaper printing, distribution and retailing. It is indeed an integral part of the modernization of press industry. In order to find out the influence of the train on newspaper industry, this article investigates the impacts of trains on the newspaper industry from two angles: information acquisition and message transmission. And these investigations proves that communication and transportation are indivisible.
