From Deng Xiaoping to Xi Jinping: Innovative Contributions to Advancing Party Building

改革开放40年来,从邓小平到习近平,党的历代领导人都为推进党的建设新的伟大工程作出创新性贡献。邓小平提出改善党的领导,强调聚精会神抓党的建设,在整个改革开放过程中都要反对腐败。江泽民强调"治国必先治党,治党务必从严",把握好共产党的执政规律,引领党的建设新的伟大工程全面推进。胡锦涛更加强调党的执政能力建设,首次明确建设马克思主义学习型政党任务,要求全面提高党的建设科学化水平。习近平提出全面从严治党,强调反腐败斗争是一场输不起、也决不能输的战争,成功挑战西方国家没有两党制不可能反对腐败的普世价值,形成的习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想,实现了党的指导思想马克思主义中国化的又一次历史飞跃。

In the past 40 years since reform and opening up began, the Party leadership, from Deng Xiaoping to Xi Jinping, have made innovative contributions to advancing the new Great Project of Party building. Deng Xiaoping put forth the idea of improving Party leadership, sparing no efforts in enhancing Party building and meanwhile opposing corruption in the course of reform and opening up. Jiang Zemin asserted that "to run the country must first of all govern the Party, and the Party should be governed strictly", and stressed on the necessity to grasp the laws underlying the governance of a Communist party so as to guide the new Great Project forward. Hu Jintao put more emphasis on improving the Party’s ability to govern. It was he who, for the first time, clearly defined the task of building the Party into a Marxist learning party, calling for an overall improvement in sound Party building. Xi Jinping put forward strict Party self-governance in every respect, reiterating that combating corruption is a war that the Party cannot afford to and should never lose. It challenged the universal values of the Western countries which hold that a two-party system is a requisite for curbing corruption. It was these theoretical explorations and innovations that gave shape to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the latest achievement in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context in the Party’s guiding theory.
