In Native American writer Sherman Alexie’s novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian, Junior, the protagonist, bravely crosses the reservation boundary and enters the white school for education to achieve his dream. His survival first makes himself the alien in the community, the traitor of the tribe, and even the scapegoat of the native people’s colonial mental trauma after self-healing. Through resolute fight, he gradually wins the recognition of the white people and the understanding of the Indians, walking freely between the two worlds eventually.Junior’s successful way of entering the mainstream society interprets Alexie’s hope for national survival.
