在高等教育现代化进程中,大学校长需要具备精深的学术造诣并引领学术的发展,这是促进大学发展的必要条件。纵观民国大学发展,大学校长作为大学之理的体现者以及大学之事的承载者,成就了其对学术角色的卫护。大学校长以独立的姿态立身于社会、政府之间,他们始终坚守着大学真谛:教育独立、学术自由和教授治校,其对中国高等教育现代化道路的探索,成为中国现代高等教育思想的宝贵遗产,具有重要价值和借鉴意义。

In the process of modernization of higher education,university presidents need to have a profound academic attainments and academic leading quality,which is a necessary factor to promote the development of universities. In the comprehensive survey of the development of universities in the period of the Republic of China,university presidents,as embodiment of university concepts and carrier of university affairs,accomplished the protection of their academic role. With an independent attitude,presidents in that period established themselves between the society and government,and adhered to the true philosophy of the university: independence of education,academic freedom,and professors governing schools. Their search for the road of modernization of China’s higher education is a valuable heritage of the thoughts of China’s modern education and is of great value and enlightening significance.
