Doctor Criminale,by contemporary British academic writer Malcolm Bradbury, set in the cultural contexts of deconstruction,Heidegger Affair and Paul de Man Scandal from the end of the 1980 s to the early 1990 s,portrays a fictional great thinker by incorporating real places, personages, culture and history. It then deconstructs such an image, revealing this person’s secrets, mistakes and betrayal screened behind his fame.Through exploring the real with the fictional and drawing inspirations from history, this novel examines the complicated relationships between the intellectuals’fame, thought, situation, and political and ethical ideas. At the same time,it also probes into the problem of how to look at celebrities’achievements and mistakes in an objective way.
