Investigation and Discrimination of Fan Zhen's Life and Deeds

:范缜是南朝齐、梁时期有名的唯物主义哲学家和无神论者。范氏为帝尧裔孙刘累之后。缜之祖最早为晋范晷。缜籍贯应是顺阳。他幼时从学刘王献 ,后曾使魏和亲 ,历任宁蛮主簿 ,尚书殿中郎、宜都、晋安太守、国子博士等职。他反对崇佛 ,虽遭众人攻击 。

Fan Zhen was a well known materialistic philosopher and atheist in the period of Southern Qi and Liang dynasties, Fan's families were the descendants of Liu Lei, the grandson of Emperor Yao, Fan Zhen's grandfather was Fan Gui of the Jin Dynasty. Fan Zhen's native place must be Shunyang, When he was young, he learned from Liu Huan. Afterward, he was dispatched to Wei Kingdom for cementing relations by marriage. He had successively acted as Ningman head clerk, secretarial office adjutant; magistrate of Yidu and Jinan, doctorate of national school, etc. He opposed to worshiping Buddhism, though was attacked by many people, yet was never subduced.
