胡商作为崭新的文学形象最早见之于唐人小说 ,与唐代商业的各个层面紧密相关。唐朝国内经济繁荣、市场稳定 ,激发了胡商来华的热望 ;唐政府对外开放的商贸政策和积极招商的措施 ,使胡商来华经营的各种条件得以具备 ;而当时的商业观念 ,又主导了小说家们对胡商形象的具体描绘。

As a new literary image, foreign merchants first appeared in the novels written in the Tang Dynasty.In fact,they were closely connected with each aspect of the Tang commerce. The prosperity of the domestic economy and the steady development of the market in the Tang Dynasty had stimulated the foreign merchants to come to China. The access to the Tang market had been guaranteed by the Tang government's open trade and business policies and active measures attracting foreign merchants. And the commercial idea of the time had led to the detailed description of the foreign merchants by the novelists.
