Application of biofiltration as final process in slightly polluted water treatment is an economical and effective way to achieve organic pollutants and turbidity removal within the same filter unit. This article presented a review of the types of biofiltration as well as key factors influencing the biological performance. Several areas requiring further research were also identified.
