OBJECTIVE:The study aimed to observe the antitussive effect of Keting tlabets(KTT) and analyze the prescription to assess its reasonableness.METHOD:The prescription divided into three groups, such as compound prescription group(KTT),non ammonium chloride group(including all the compenents of KTT but ammonium chloride) and ammonium chloride group.Firstly, the cough reflex induced by inhalation of citric acid aerosol was evaluated in conscious guinea pigs.Secondly, the centrally mediated cough reflex induced by afferent electrical stimulation of the superior laryngeal nerve were investigated in anesthetized guinea pigs.RESULTS:Both of KTT and ammonium chloride groups had antitussive effect on guinea pigs that induced by citric acid, the effect potent of KTT group was 1.32 times that of ammonium chloride group and over 4 times that of non ammonium chloride group.Non ammonium chloride group had no significant effects.Meanwhile, both KTT and non ephedrine had antitussive effect on the centrally mediated cough reflex induced by afferent electrical stimulation of the superior laryngeal nerve in anesthetized guinea pigs. The effect potent of KTT group was 2.94 times that of non ammonium chloride group.Ammonium chloride group had no obvious effect.CONCLUSION:The antitussive effect of KTT excluding ammonium chloride was weaker than that of KTT.The results demonstrated that there was a synergism between ammonium chloride and the Chinese medicine of TKN,and the prescription was not only rational but also feasible.
