Objective To determine if video assisted minimal invasive great sphenous vein harvest was possible, safe and associated with less post operative leg wound infection and decreased morbidity. Method In 29 CABG patients, video assisted minimal invasive great saphenous vein harvest was done in 13 cases and traditional method was performed in 16 cases from March 2000 to June 2001. The length of the harvesting great saphemons vein and the operating duration, the rate of postoperative leg wound complicatons were compared between the two groups. Results Both the methods did not do harm to the harvesting great saphenous veins. And there was no difference of the operating duration per length of the vein between the two groups. However, the leg wound complication rate decreased conspicuously in the video assisted group. Conclusion Compared with the traditional method, the video assisted minimal invasive great saphenous vein harvest is safe and possible in CABG cases, and it would decrease the complication rate of the leg wound obviously.
