A is a newly developed fine quality indica CMS line in rice. Its pollen sterility and percentage of sterile plants were both 100%. It had the characteristics of good plant type, fine grain quality, favourable flowering habits, desirable agronomic characters and good combining ability. Its F 1 hybrids showed both high yield potential and good grain quality. B You 840 (803A/Mianhui 2040) and B You 838 (803A/Fuhui 838) were certified by the Crop Appraisal Committee of Sichuan Province in 2000 and 2001, respectively.
