Deng Xiaoping's perspective of national interests can be summarized as follows: National interests are the uttermost principle for international relations; the relationship between nations is one of equal interests; and the key to the resolve of international conflicts is to seek common interests between and among nations. As an important part of his diplomatic ideology, Deng's perspective of national interests rightly serves as a guiding principle in China's handling of international relations.
