Working principle for Δ type snubber circuit of GTO device is probed. Technical specifications for the devices are put forward. A new idea is proposed that in the snubber circuit the clamping capacitor can be turned into directly paralleled snubber capacitor in latter half when the current is converting to the circuit. Thus, the snubber capacitance is dramatically increased, turn off overvoltage of GTO devices is greatly decreased, and reliability is improved.
