Pollen morphology of 14 species in the genus Aspidistra in China was examined under scanning electron microscope (SEM). Pollen grains are spheroidal or prolate. The exine ornamentation may be divided into three types: (1)rugulate exine; (2)gemmate exine; (3)tuberculate-bacubate exine. The evolutionary trends of the exine ornamentation are as follows: rugulate exine →gemmate exine→tuberculate-bacubate exine.
