A stability analysis of free surface discretization in ship wave-making calculation is made in this article. Using multivariable continuous and discrete Fourier analysis, the discrete dispersion relation is derived, a criterion for free surface discretization meeting the requirements of stability, taking account of singularity distributions outside domain, is established, and some stable diagrams, characterized by the grid Froude number and panel aspect ratio, for free surface discretized with panels are presented.
