There is a great limit to the techniques of search engines today. At first, some deficiencies are indicated. Then Robot,indices, database, retrieval and relevance ranking are discussed as the processing techniques at the retrieval server to improve the retrieval quality. Techniques about intelligent browse and intelligent agent are introduced. A prototype of an intelligent retrieval system is provided.
