This paper, from a pragmatic viewpoint, makes a comparative study of the pragmatic function of some confusable figures of speech in English and outlines the similarities and discrepancies between the figures in each group, which is very conducive to the reader's good understanding of the writer's or the speaker's intention and to his careful discrimination and correct use of these figures.
