With the increased hygiene standards and requirement in our living environment, the use of biocides is now creeping from food supply-chain,manufacturing establishments and institutions into our homes.Stressful modern lifestyle exerts tremendous time pressure on us today.Consumers are spending less time on household cleaning as compared with ten years ago.Germ-contaminated areas are commonly not thoroughly cleaned,as consumers could not'see'the germs.In such a situation,the appropriate use of antimicrobial products can be valuable in reducing the risk from harmful microorganism.In these fast-pace life-styles,clothes are now more and more washed at night.The absence of sunlight and a damp environment on freshly laundered clothes leaves much room for bacteria growth on remnants of body perspiration and oils in the clothing fibers.Therefore,laundry detergent and fabric softeners are not spared of antibacteria agents.On a similar note,the hard surfaces in the household,e.g.dishes,kitchen surfaces,wet bathroom suefaces and hard flooring,are in need of effective ways to control the undesirable growth of micoorganism when contaminated.This paper addresses the need for the maintenance good hygiene practices at home and presents practical solutions to these ever-challenging demands in our modern lifestyle.
