This article analyses the pragmatic failure and equivalence of the honorifics and terms of humility in the Chinese English translation. Then the conclusion is arrived at that only through pragmatic contrast between Chinese and English cultures the translator can achieve the pragmatic equivalence rather than the pragmatic failure in the translation of such social deixis.
