The technologies used in W-CDMA communication system for improving the system ca pacity are discussed in the paper. These technologies include inter-cell asynchr onous operation and three-step fast cell search, pilot symbol assisted coherent channel estimation, SIR based fast transmitting power control, site diversity, a nd transmitting diversity in the forward link, interference cancellation and ada ptive antenna array diversity receiver/transmitter.
